10 Key Things You Should Know About Postwar Japanese Avant-Garde Art – for a Better Understanding of “Sunrise in the West”…
Mika Kuraya was born in Chiba (Japan), and had been working as chief curator of The National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo (MOMAT). Assumed the director of Yokohama Museum of Art (YAM) and general director of Yokohama Triennale in 2020. Her main concern is Japanese modern and contemporary art. Her curatorial projects include: “Undressing Paintings: Japanese Nudes 1880–1945” (2011–2012, MOMAT), “Jiro Takamatsu Mysteries” (2014–2015, MOMAT, co-curation), and “Welcome Back, Yokohama” (2025, YAM). She had received Special Mention for the 55th Venice Biennale of International Art Exhibition with Koki Tanaka’s solo show “abstract speaking: sharing uncertainty and other collective acts” in 2013.

The lecture will take the form of an online session with the speaker and will be broadcast in the courtyard of the Four Domes Pavilion. Admission free.
