Non-Toys

7 May – 14 August 2022

Curator of the exhibition: Marta Derejczyk

A presentation of works created by Piotr Rogaliński – contemporary artist, sculptor, musician and author of theatre stage design, inspired by traditional folk art.

By recycling reclaimed materials, mostly timber traditionally used in the country, the artist creates multi-figure mobile installations describing human fate – inseparable from the surrounding nature. Non-toys are in fact small sculptures, installations and artefacts made using old, surplus materials (beams, wrought iron pieces, fragments of farming tools, etc.), often in a very simplistic way. Their form and crudeness recalls archaic objects, and when placed in new contexts they address vital issues of humanity: toils/stresses of everyday existence, intimate contact with another person, love, as well as loneliness and death.
