The Harvest Festival. A Social Affair

17 September – 13 November 2022

Curator of the exhibition: Agnieszka Szepetiuk-Barańska

In the contemporary cultural scenery of country life, the Harvest Festival is undoubtedly among the most popular and widespread annual celebrations, an example of the multigenerational integration of local communities.

The exhibition attempts to analyse the transformation of cultural content, and its adaptation to the conditions of the ancient and the modern civilisation. The narration is based on the testimonials of witnesses, participants in the event which is so important to local residents, archive photographic and film materials gathered by the Museum, as well as objects gifted by donors and those found during field research in certain villages in Silesia and in Lower Silesia, and those obtained thanks to the collaboration with the local Women’s Institutes [Polish: Koła Gospodyń Wiejskich].
