The National Museum in Wrocław celebrates the Year of Jan Matejko with the unique event which is the presentation of the famous series of 44 portrait drawings depicting Polish kings, queens and princes.
This work of art, which has dominated the historical memory of several generations of Poles, was created at the end of the 19th century as one of Matejko’s final works. “The Gallery of Polish Kings” (the Polish title: “Poczet królów i książąt polskich”), rarely put on display due to conservation concerns, is – together with “The Panorama of the Battle of Racławice” and the “Warszawa” series by Artur Grottger – one of the national treasures in the collection of the National Museum in Wrocław.
