Maria Pinińska-Bereś. A Retrospective

7 July – 13 October 2024

Curator of the exhibition MNWr: Małgorzata Micuła

A large monographic exhibition of the celebrated modern Polish artist, Maria Pinińska-Bereś (1931–1999), considered one of the most prominent personages of 20th-century Polish art.

The aim of this exhibition is to reinforce the knowledge of the artist’s work in the international arts stage, and establish her prominent position in history of art. According to the curators, the works created by Pinińska-Bereś enhance the perception of 1960s and 1990s art, and of its key subjects such as performativity, “form and non-form”, (non)presentation of femininity/feminism, as well as ecological awareness and transhuman coexistence. These subjects are presented via a wide selection of the artist’s work, including her most important sculptures and performances made in the period from the 1950s to the end of the 1990s.

The exhibits are part of the own collection of the MNWr, of the National Museum in Kraków and of the Bereś Family Foundation. The exhibition was organised in collaboration with Kunstmuseum den Haag in Hague, and will also be shown in other European museums. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue.
