Easter Eggs and Palms

14 March – 6 April 2023
(April 1, 2023 – the fair)

Curator of the exhibition: Agnieszka Szepetiuk-Barańska

Easter eggs and palms, special Easter decorations and greeting cards, traditional Easter lambs made of pastry and clay, paper flowers, and also wooden and ceramic figurines of birds are among some of the exhibits shown in the annual Easter exhibition, and were created by contemporary artists working in the regions of Lower Silesia and Opolskie.

The artefacts on display include Easter eggs decorated using various techniques such as batik, engraving and applique. There are also eggs covered with miniature cut-out patterns, bulrush core, traditional ‘kroszonki’ from the Opole region – eggs painted using hot wax and dye, as well as those decorated with the characteristic Hutsul, Suwałki and Rzeszów motifs. The exhibition, an important experience and part of anthropological research, also provides an opportunity to study the development of egg decoration techniques and their evolution, as well as the directions and artistic trends they are subject to.
