A new permanent exposition in the Ethnographic Museum
6 September 2025 – the opening
Curator of the exhibition: Marta Derejczyk
Works by amateur artists linked with Lower Silesia, such as Anna Binkuńska, Jarosław Furgała, Józef Lurka, Józef Mączyński, Brunon Podjaski, and Władysław Sałdyka, are shown in the new permanent exposition of non-professional art opening in 2025 in the Ethnographic Museum in Wrocław.
The exhibition showcases the most interesting contemporary exhibits from the ME’s Folk Art Department, whose collection comprises paintings, drawings, sculptures and bas-relief objects, maquettes, and items related to mobile toys and religious art. The collection is predominantly of a regional nature, mostly covering the present area of the Lower Silesia voivodeship, while some pieces originated also from the regions of Opole, Lubuskie, the area of Częstochowa, and Silesia.
The opening of the exhibition makes a reference to the history of the Museum – the first permanent Gallery of Non-Professional Art in Poland opened in 1981 in the Ethnographic Museum in Wrocław, presenting around 150 works by a dozen or so such artists.
